AMARILLO - May 10/04 - SNS -- Market conditions for cattle, hogs and lambs in the major markets in the U.S. midwest are summarized in the latest daily report from the USDA.


Daily Livestock Summary
                             CATTLE

 In the direct slaughter cattle trade in the Five Major Marketing Areas,
Texas/Oklahoma; Kansas; Nebraska; Colorado; Iowa/Minnesota; on Monday, not
enough sales reported to establish a market trend.  Steers: Live basis; (all
Grades: no sales). Dressed basis; (all Grades: no sales).  Heifers: live basis;
(all Grades: no sales). Dressed Basis; (all Grades: no sales).

Terminal markets: So. St Paul slaughter steers and heifers sold mostly
steady.  Steers: Few Choice 2-3 1251-1463 lbs 90.00-91.00. Heifers: Choice 2-3
pkg 1160 lbs 90.00.

                                    HOGS

   The direct hog trade prices are based on 185 lbs hog carcass with 0.9-1.1
inch back fat and 6 inch square loin/2.0 inch depth plant delivered.
National direct trade barrows and gilts were .76 higher with prices ranging
from 68.50-81.50, weighted average price 77.55.  Iowa-Minnesota was 1.32
higher at 68.50-81.00, weighted average price 78.14.  Western Cornbelt sold
1.17 higher at 68.50-81.50, weighted average price 78.03 and Eastern
Cornbelt was .09 higher at 72.50-81.08, weighted average price 76.69.

   At South St Paul and Sioux Falls terminal markets, barrows and gilts sold
1.00-1.25 higher, with 47-50 percent lean 220-270 lbs selling from 54.00-58.25.

Choice end Prime 120-140 lbs 90.00-95.00.  Slaughter lambs at Sioux Falls no
good price trend comparison.  Shorn Lambs: Choice end Prime 2-3 no. 1-2 pelts
138-154 lbs 94.00-95.50.  Wooled Lambs: Choice end Prime 2-3 124-148 lbs 100.50-
101.50.
