Canada's Chick Placements Up, Poultry DownOTTAWA - Apr 27/04 - SNS -- Placements of hatchery chicks onto farms were estimated at 56.8 million birds in March, up 1.3% from March 2003 and lifting the calendar year to date numbers 0.79% ahead of 2003, according to Statistics Canada. Placements of turkey poults on farms decreased 12.7% to 1.6 million birds compared to March of 2003; contributing to a general decline in placements as year to date numbers now sit at almost 5% below last year.
