Fungi Resistant Pinto BeanWASHINGTON - Apr 1/04 - SNS -- USDA Researchers have developed a new variety of pinto bean which is resistant to soilborne fungi that cause root rot, including Fusarium solani, Rhizoctonia solani, and Pythium species. It's also moderately resistant to common bacterial blight. Known as TARS-PT03-1, it is a small seeded variety. Researchers believe, however, this will help plant breeders develop cultivars with disease resistance and greater yield potential.
