Bean Import Controversy in MexicoMEXICO CITY - Mar 29/04 - STAT -- Reports compiled by the U.S. agricultural attache here suggest dry edible bean imports from Canada and the United States remain a major irritation for local producers and farm groups. In a situation which bears some of the hallmarks of efforts being made by some dry edible bean processors in the United States to block imports, Mexican producers appear to be asking custom officials to inspect beans at a level of detail unheard of in international commerce.
