Bean Flour Research GrantLANSING - Mar 26/04 - MFB -- The Michigan Edible Bean Cooperative was awarded a $247,175 USDA grant to help fund a market study about demand for dry bean flour. "This grant is part of the Bush Administration's strategy to improve farm incomes by increasing the value of agricultural products," said Dale Sherwin, state director for USDA Rural Development. "This grant will allow the cooperative to explore a new market for Michigan-grown beans." USDA also granted $55,574 to the Michigan Turkey Producers Cooperative to help expand the market for turkey products in the fast food sector. "This grant will help expand the market and add value to Michigan-raised turkeys," Sherwin said. The USDA also presented a grant award of $71,600 to the Michigan Apple Committee for hard cider research.
