Japan's Organic Rules SurmountedTOKYO - Mar 23/04 - SNS -- Regulatory hurdles faced by organic food and commodity shippers from the United States to Japan have decreased since the two countries negotiated a liberal equivalency agreement in 2002, says the U.S. agricultural attache here. Since that time, U.S. products have been able to satisfy the requirement all organic goods meet the 2001 Japan Agricultural Standard (JAS) law and organic labeling standard. They are shipped either as NOP certified organic products to JAS certified importers; or by exporting products certified to JAS in the U.S. by the last producer or manufacturer to handle the product before export.
