AUSFTA Will Not Change Aussie IRAsCANBERRA - Mar 17/04 - SNS -- Contrary to what has been suggested by the American Farm Bureau, the free trade agreement between Australia and the United States (AUSFTA) will not change the way the Australian Government will continue to examine agricultural import requests from the United States. Australian Agriculture Minister Warren Truss stressed the proposed Australia-United States Free Trade Agreement would not change Australia's Import Risk Assessment (IRA) process. "Australia decides what farm produce can come to this country and the manner in which it comes - based on a transparent, science-based risk assessment at arm's-length from the political process," Truss said.
