Turkey Hatchery Pressured Lower in U.S.WASHINGTON - Mar 12/04 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity was down significantly in February, with the month ending wish solid declines in both the number of poults placed and eggs set. The USDA found there were 28.9 million turkey eggs in incubators in the United States on March 1, down 7% from March 1 a year ago. Eggs in incubators were 1% above the February 2004 total of 28.8 million. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central, down 5% at 4,559,000 eggs; West North Central, down 7% at 11,131,000; North and South Atlantic, down 5% at 8,700,000; South Central, down 18% at 2,379,000; and West, down 11% at just 2,172,000 eggs in incubators.
