Feed and Food Uses for PeasWINNIPEG - Mar 12/04 - STAT -- In the livestock feed market, hogs are currently the most important outlet for feed peas -- though there is considerable long term potential for using peas in aquaculture because they are less polluting feed ingredient. Stan Skrypetz, Pulse and Special Crops Analyst with the market analysis division of Agriculture Canada in Winnipeg said in a recent review of field peas that they are a good source of energy and protein for hogs. When protein quality and amino acids, such as lysine, are considered in diet formulation for hogs, peas are very price competitive.
