Retaliatory Duties Affect U.S. PulsesVANCOUVER - Mar 12/04 - STAT -- Beans, peas and chickpeas are among the commodities which will be affected by the European Union's imposition of escalating, retaliatory duties on U.S. origin goods. Duties start at 5% this month and will increase by one percent per month until reaching 17% in March, 2005. The duties will be removed as soon as the United States repeals the FSC/ETI provisions of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. The WTO ruled these tax code provisions are a prohibited export subsidy and are in violation of WTO rules. Starting on May 1, 2004, the additional duties will be applied to U.S. products exported to the 10 new member states. The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
