U.S. Sugarcane Forecast Slips
WASHINGTON - Mar 10/04 - SNS -- Production of sugarcane for sugar and seed for 2003 is estimated at 34.5 million tons, down slightly from last month and 3% below last year, according to the latest crop production estimates from the USDA.
Acres harvested and to be harvested for sugar and seed are estimated at 997,800 for the 2003 crop year, 2% less than last year's harvested area. Yield is estimated at 34.6 tons per acre, 0.1 ton below February's forecast and the 2002 crop.
