Cargill Buying Burris Mill & Feed

MINNEAPOLIS - Mar 2/04 - SNS -- Cargill Animal Nutrition has signed a purchase agreement for the assets of Burris Mill & Feed, Inc. in Franklinton, La.

"Aquaculture is the primary focus of Burris Mill, and Cargill intends to increase its presence in this industry," said John Peppel, vice president of Cargill Animal Nutrition. Cargill manufactures aquaculture products primarily in Latin America and Asia, with some production in several U.S. locations.

The appeal of selling to Cargill came from a desire "to join a company with the resources of Cargill so that we can see the Burris brand continue to grow," said David Burris, president of Burris Mill & Feed, Inc. "This will take Burris Mill to a new level for our customers." David Burris operates the business with his brother, Bob, who is vice president and secretary of Burris Mill & Feed, Inc.

Cargill will continue to use the Burris brand in the future, which is known for customized services and innovation. David and Bob Burris will remain with the business as Cargill employees.

"Burris has a strong brand and loyal customers," Peppel said. "Combining with Cargill will help bring new products and innovations to those customers. We are excited to be able to work with the Burris brothers and their team in Franklinton."
