USDA Expects General Pulse Area IncreaseWASHINGTON - Feb 26/04 - STAT -- The USDA's Economic Research Service is looking for pulse area to uniformly increase in the United States this year, with dry edible bean area rising around 10% and pea, lentil and chickpea plantings rising at a more modest pace. The comments were contained in this month's Vegetables and Melons Outlook by Gary Lucier and Charles Plummer. The most controversial comments are those about dry edible beans, because they directly challenge the interests of market bulls who have positioned themselves in the belief strong soybean markets will strip acreage away from beans in Ontario, Michigan, Manitoba, North Dakota and Minnesota.
