India Drives Land to Pulses, OilseedsNEW DELHI - Feb 16/04 - SNS -- The Indian government will continue pursuing policies which will drive land from grain production into oilseeds and pulses, said the country's agriculture minister in his inaugural speech to the National Conference on Agriculture for Kharif Campaign 2004. Shri R.C.A. Jain said total foodgrain production this season could end up between 212 to 215 million metric tons (MT), compared to just 183 million MT last season. Wheat production is expected to end up around 73.5 million MT if weather conditions remain favorable, compared to last year's 69 million MT harvest.
