India's Rabi Pulses Area Up 30% So FarNEW DELHI - Feb 13/04 - SNS -- Rabi or winter season pulse seedings have so far reached 14 million hectares, according to India's agriculture department, a substantial improvement on the 10.7 million hectares normally sown at this time of year. Gram is the main Rabi pulse with a normal area of 5.8 million hectares, which is about 57% of the total Rabi pulses area. The major Bengal gram producing states are Madhya Pradesh which normally plant 2.2 million hectares; Rajasthan which normally plants 900,000 hectares; and Uttar Pradesh with a normal area of 800,000 hectares.
