ADM to Close German Rapeseed MillDECATUR - Feb 6/04 - SNS -- Archer Daniels Midland Company said it is looking to close its rapeseed processing facility in Leer, Germany. Management at the plant have therefore entered negotiations with the works council regarding the discontinuation of its rapeseed crushing and oil refinery operation. The facility was acquired in 1990 and produces rapeseed meal and oil. ADM will continue its biodiesel fuel operations in Leer. The rapeseed crushing and oil refinery in Leer, Germany is part of Oelmühle Leer Connemann GmbH&Co.KG, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Oelmühle Hamburg AG. ADM maintains a majority ownership of Oelmühle Hamburg AG. Reuters reports the Leer mill processes about 340,000 metric tons (MT) of rapeseed and some sunflower seed annually; while Oelmühle Hamburg handles around 3.7 million MT of oilseeds at its German mills each year.
