Mexican Chicken Use RisesMEXICO CITY - Jan 30/04 - SNS -- Chicken production and consumption is expected to grow at a faster rate than initially thought during 2004 as consumers react to rising red meat prices on the country's domestic market. Chicken prices are expected to increase, but continue to be cheaper than beef, believes the U.S. agricultural attache here. As a result of the stronger market, Mexican chicken meat production is expected to advance from initial forecasts of 2.412 million metric tons (MT) to closer to 2.5 million MT, while imports remain unchanged at a forecast 293,000 MT. Available supplies of chicken meat are expected to be consumed, with the result Mexican disappearance will jump from around 2.41 million MT in 2002 to 2.58 million MT last year and a forecast 2.75 million MT this year.
