India Fertilizer Output Exceeds TargetNEW DELHI - Jan 30/04 - SNS -- Fertilizer production exceeded targets during December, according data supplied by India's Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers. Production during December is estimated at 1.766 million metric tons (MT) of urea and 481,000 MT of DAP, for an overall increase against targets of 1.733 million MT and 482,000 MT respectively. During December, 2003, 1.807 million MT urea was dispatched to the States against the target of 1.75 million MT. Cumulative availability of urea during the current Rabi season by the end of December, 2003 has been 6.541 million MT and this level of availability was satisfactory in all the States. Government analyst said there have been no reports of fertilizer shortages so far during the rabi season. "Further, the sale of urea during Rabi 2003-04 up to 31.12.2003 was 5.272 million MT which was higher by about 9% as compared to the corresponding period of the previous year."
