Do Retail Battles Influence Commodities?

VANCOUVER - Jan 29/04 - STAT -- As growers struggle to meet cash flow needs in an environment where they are expected to share in the act of lowering retail prices, a rising number believe it is important to extend themselves further into the marketing chain.

Instead of only selling to intermediaries such as line elevator companies or specialty crop processing plants, more are seeking ways to sell directly to end users and retail consumers. Among other venues, they use farmers markets, roadside stands, and the internet.
