Australia Confident Can Block Avian FluCANBERRA - Jan 29/04 - SNS -- Australia's agriculture minister in confident the country's quarantine system will keep avian influenza at bay. Australian Agriculture Minister Warren Truss said the country's quarantine and animal health authorities had been monitoring the situation since late last year, when initial reports of cases had been received. "Using resources from the Government's $596 million for increased quarantine intervention, AQIS is screening all flights, passengers and baggage from high-risk countries," Truss said. "AQIS is looking for high-risk products, including raw or cooked chicken and duck meat, fresh or preserved eggs, poultry vaccines and items with feathers attached.
