Mixed Results for Broiler HatcheryWASHINGTON - Jan 28/04 - SNS -- Broiler hatchery data was mixed for thr week ending January 24, with fewer chicks placed and more eggs set than the same week last year, according to the USDA. Commercial hatcheries in the 19-State weekly program set 205 million eggs in incubators. This was up slightly from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 82%. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier. Broiler growers in the 19-State weekly program placed 165 million chicks for meat production. Placements were down slightly from the comparable week a year earlier.
