Japan Blocks Indonesian Chicken ImportsTOKYO - Jan 25/04 - SNS -- Japan has banned poultry and chicken meat imports from Indonesia, following that country's confirmation of an outbreak of avian influenza among its chickens. Japan is also banning chicken imports from Cambodia. Last Thursday it not allowing chicken imports from Thailand, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Macau, Hong Kong, Italy, South Korea, Vietnam and Taiwan. To help combat the spread of the disease, affected countries are culling chickens. So far, an estimated three million have been slaughtered in Vietnam and nine million in Thailand.
