Cargill Buying Agway Animal Feed UnitMINNEAPOLIS - Jan 20/04 - SNS -- Cargill Animal Nutrition has signed a purchase agreement for the assets of Agway Animal Feed and Nutrition from Agway, Inc. "Cargill is interested in Agway Animal Feed and Nutrition for a number of reasons," said Richard Frasch, president of Cargill Animal Nutrition. "The business has a dedicated, talented staff, and it has strong brand recognition with its customers. Acquiring Agway Animal Feed and Nutrition also will help assure the continuation of a high level of services and quality products to customers in the northeastern United States." Said Michael Hopsicker, president and chief executive officer at Agway: "We believe the sale of Agway Feed and Nutrition to Cargill is in the best interests of our creditors. Cargill’s commitment to the animal feed and nutrition business will help serve our long-time, valued customers well and provide additional opportunities for employees."
