Pakistan Updating Farm Chemical RegsISLAMABAD - Jan 20/04 - SNS -- Pakistan's Agricultural Pesticides Rules are being brought into line with those of the United States, China, the European Union, Japan and the Organization for Economic Cooperation for Development by banning imports of chemicals which are not approved for use in those countries. Under the proposed regulation, importers and manufacturers must provide a proper declaration that the imported chemistry has been approved for use in those countries before it will be allowed to enter Pakistan. Other changes to the act will not allow bulk pesticide and herbicide sales. Imported product will need to be repackaged into containers bearing the manufacturers own label at facilities which have been approved by the federal government. Packaging in the country is also to be standarized in 250ml, 500ml or 1,000ml containers. Labels on the packages must show the name of the product, expiry date, price, as well as th address an telephone number(s) of the importer, formulator and manufacturer. The products can only be passed on to the distributor, dealer or retailer (as the case may be) in the retail packing. The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
