Strong Opening Quarter Pulse UsageWASHINGTON - Jan 12/04 - STAT -- Pulse stocks in all positions in the United States as of December 1 point to an aggressive sales campaign during the opening quarter of the 2003-04 marketing year. Numbers released by the USDA today reveal there are 2,876,000 cwt (100 pound units) or 130,545 metric tons (MT) of field peas on hand as of December 1; 1,233,000 cwt or 55,929 MT of lentils; 53,000 cwt or 2,404 MT of Australian winter peas; and 416,000 cwt or 18,670 MT of chickpeas. The chickpea stocks are split 66,000 cwt or 2,994 MT of small caliber, including desi, chickpeas; and 350,000 cwt or 15,876 MT of large caliber kabuli chickpeas or garbanzo beans.
