Massive Increase in Millet HarvestWASHINGTON - Jan 12/04 - SNS -- Total 2003 proso millet production is estimated at 11.5 million bushels, up significantly from the drought stricken 2002 production of 2.76 million bushels, according to the USDA's final crop report for 2003. Yields are also higher in 2003 with the average yield estimated at 18.5 bushels per acre, up 6.0 bushels per acre from last year. Planted area for the 2003 crop is estimated at 730,000 acres, 62% above last year. Colorado, Nebraska, and South Dakota all show an increase in acreage from the previous year.
