IC Tags Track Ag ProductsTOKYO - Jan 9/04 - SNS -- Integrated circuit (IC) tags are being used to track the movement of some agricultural products through Japan's marketing chain, right from the producer to the end user. The experiment was launched Thursday in Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture. Involving Yokosuka Hayama agricultural cooperative and three supermarkets in the Keikyu Store chain, the chips are intended to record product information and help manage distribution. The tags being used for the experiment consists of an IC chip measuring 0.4 square mm and a tiny antenna for wireless communication. The experiment will run through February 6.
