Greek Apple and Pear Crops Slashed by FrostROME - Jan 7/04 - SNS -- Poor growing conditions slashed 2003 apple production in Greece 30% from 235,000 to 170,000 metric tons(MT). The country's fresh pear harvest plunged from 37,000 to 30,000 MT; while this year's grape harvest was unchanged at 314,000 MT. Commenting on the situation, the U.S. agricultural attache here reports northern Greece was affected by frost in the spring of 2003, resulting in most of the damage reported in the country.
