Pecan Market Update for LouisianaBATON ROUGE - Dec 2/03 - SNS -- Pecan market conditions in the state of Louisiana are summarized in this report from the USDA.
LOUISIANA PECANS
Deliveries made by growers of Louisiana pecans were fairly heavy.
Prices were steady and demand was good on good supplies. Harvest
operations were progressing rapidly in most areas of the state.
According to the Louisiana Agriculture Statistics Service, the state wide
harvest rate was 82% on December 1, 2003. This compares to 72% last week
and a five year average of 74%.
Paid to growers on Native pecans of generally good quality and condition
cents per pound, in shell in lots less than 5000 lbs 45 some 55 cents per
pound and machine harvested 65 cents per pound.
