Tighter Stocks Underpin Lentils

VANCOUVER - Mar 30/13 - SNS -- Lentil markets finished the week's trading on a firmer note, helped by tightening stocks of red lentils and ongoing demand from the Indian subcontinent and other destinations.

Markets were helped by the USDA seeding intentions report, which said farmers in that country planned to plant 28% fewer lentils.

If seeded area ends up at the intended 335,000 acres, average yields would result in a 179,000 metric ton (MT) crop.
