U.S. Cane Crop Crop Up 7%WASHINGTON - Aug 10/12 - SNS -- Production of sugarcane for sugar and seed in the United States this year is forecast at 31.4 million tons, up 7% from last year, according to the latest USDA crop estimate. Producers intend to harvest 891,000 acres for sugar and seed during the 2012 crop year, up 18,400 acres from last year. Expected yield for sugar and seed is forecast at 35.2 tons per acre, up 1.5 tons from 2011. Louisiana and Florida, which account for 91% of the forecasted production, experienced excellent growing conditions throughout the spring and summer months.
