Peanut Crop Jumps 46%WASHINGTON - Aug 10/12 - SNS --Peanut production in the United States is forecast at 5.29 billion pounds, up 46% from last year, according to the latest USDA crop estimate. Area for harvest is expected to total 1.49 million acres, unchanged from June but 35% higher than 2011. Based on conditions as of August 1, the average yield for the United States is forecast at 3,562 pounds per acre, up 249 pounds from last year. Record high yields are expected in Georgia and Florida, and yields will tie record highs in North Carolina and Oklahoma, if realized. The largest yield increases from last year are expected in Oklahoma and Texas, where drought conditions last year significantly reduced crop potential.
