U.S. Rice Stocks Tighten
WASHINGTON - Jun 29/12 - SNS -- Rough rice stocks in all positions on June 1, 2012 totaled 59.1 million hundredweight (cwt or 100 pound units), down 17% from last year's total, according to the USDA.
Stocks held on farms totaled 6.64 million cwt and off-farm stocks totaled 52.5 million cwt. Long grain varieties accounted for 64% of the total rough rice, medium grain accounted for 34%, and short grain varieties accounted for 2%.
Milled rice stocks in all positions totaled 4.46 million cwt, down 25% from a year ago. Milled rice stocks were comprised of 3.01 million cwt of whole kernel rice and 1.46 million cwt of second heads, screenings, and brewers rice.
