U.S. Flax Area SoarsWASHINGTON - Jun 29/12 - SNS -- Area planted to flaxseed in 2012 is estimated at 285,000 acres, up 107,000 acres or 60% more than was planted in 2011, according to the USDA's seeded area estimates for 2012. Acreage in North Dakota, the largest flaxseed-producing State, is up 73% from 2011. Growers in that State were unable to plant all of their intended acreage last year due to unfavorable spring planting conditions. Area for harvest in the United States is forecast at 281,000 acres, up 62% from 2011.
