Orange Crop Estimate ImprovesWASHINGTON - Jun 12/12 - SNS -- The United States all orange forecast for the 2011-2012 season is 8.96 million tons, up 1% from both the May 1 forecast and the 2010-2011 final utilization, according to the latest crop report from the USDA. The Florida all orange forecast, at 146 million boxes (6.58 million tons), is up 1% from the May 1 forecast and up 4% from last season's final utilization. Early, midseason, and Navel varieties in Florida are forecast at 74.2 million boxes (3.34 million tons), unchanged from the May 1 forecast but up 6% from last season. The Florida Valencia orange forecast, at 72.0 million boxes (3.24 million tons), is up 1% from the May 1 forecast and up 3% from the 2010-2011 crop. Harvest of Valencia oranges in Florida is ahead of last year. Drought conditions improved in May due to significant rainfall. California and Texas production forecasts are carried forward from April.
