Modest Gain in Citrus EstimateWASHINGTON - Jun 12/12 - SNS -- Improved orange production estimates pulled total this year's citrus fruit production higher over the past month, according to the latest crop report from the USDA. The United States all orange forecast for the 2011-2012 season is 8.96 million tons, up 1% from both the May 1 forecast and the 2010-2011 final utilization. The 2011-2012 United States grapefruit crop is forecast at 1.15 million tons, unchanged from the previous forecast but down 9% from last season's final utilization. The route survey conducted May 30-31 in Florida showed 98% of the white grapefruit rows and 95% of the colored grapefruit rows were harvested.
