Hawaii's Taro Crop Expands
WASHINGTON - Jan 12/12 - SNS -- Hawaii taro production for the 2011 crop year is estimated at 4.10 million pounds, up 5% from the previous year, according to the USDA's final production estimate for 2011 crops.
Area in crop, at 485 acres, is up 10 acres from 2010. Weather varied throughout the year with drought in some areas and excess precipitation in others.
