Lentil Market Tone Easier

VANCOUVER - Sep 23/11 - SNS -- International lentil markets finished the week on an easier note as offers of new crop product from Canada moved ahead of the short term needs of buyers.

This was reflected in a U.S. $40 per metric ton (MT) decline in asking prices over the past week. Some processors are pricing more aggressively, but end users believe the "cheap" sellers are trying to push 2010 crop lentils.

Regardless of grade certificates issued by the Canadian Grain Commission, many consumers believe old crop lentils are at least one grade lower this year.
