U.S. Olive Crop CollapsesWASHINGTON - Aug 11/11 - SNS -- California olive production is forecast at 65,000 tons, according to the USDA's latest crop production forecast. The Manzanillo and Sevillano varieties are expected to account for approximately 36% and 7% of total production, respectively. All other varieties account for the remainder. This year's crop is significantly smaller than the previous year's record crop primarily due to the alternate bearing cycle of olives coupled with adverse weather during the blooming period.
