Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 23/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY No Warnings. STATE FORECAST for Saturday Fine almost throughout. Only isolated showers about northern Cape York Peninsula. A cool to cold morning with some frosts over the southeast. A cooler southerly change in western parts. Light to moderate winds otherwise. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The spell of fine weather will continue over nearly all of Queensland through the weekend and into most of next week. The surface trough in the far west will move into the central and southern interior today and weaken. Some patchy high level cloud will move over southern districts today but no precipitation is expected. A new low will form near the central NSW coast today in association with an upper low and then move slowly up the NSW coast before weakening off the south Queensland coast on about Tuesday. At the same time the high over the Bight will move towards Tasmania and become a very strong system during the week. This will mean increasing southeast winds over most of the state from Sunday onwards, but they will be delayed over the southeast corner until the weakening low arrives. Some showers are likely initially over far northern Cape York Peninsula then along the north tropical coast early in the week. Increasing showers will develop over the southeast from about Tuesday onwards. Strong winds and rough seas will extend along most of the east coast on Wednesday. With the increasing winds, nightime temperatures will return to near or above normal whilst daytime temperatures will continue to be below average over southern parts. Frosts are expected to disappear after Sunday. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
