Tension Over Canada's Quality Building

VANCOUVER - Oct 29/10 - SNS -- International lentil markets are showing signs of greater tension as end users start complain more loudly that asking prices for Canadian lentils are getting out line with other pulses.

It seems most buyers do not fully appreciate the stark difference in the quality of this year's harvest and those of recent years, when lentils contained few defects. This year all possible defects allowed in a grade may appear in a single shipment.

Some samples of No 1 grade lentils, for instance, are at the maximum tolerances for each type of damage and the minimum tolerance for color.
