Controversy Expected Over Oct 4 Report

VANCOUVER - Sep 30/10 - SNS -- The October 4 crop production estimates from Statistics Canada will almost certainly be controversial because of the limited amount of harvest progress made during the time farmers were surveyed.

The numbers will reflect their degree of optimism about how much longer the harvest was to be delayed and what effect that might have on their crops.

As it turns out, the delay was longer than expected and once the weather improved, farmers experienced an even more frustrating time -- waiting for fields to be dry enough to support heavy machinery.
