Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 8/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY No warnings. STATE FORECAST for Friday Scattered showers about the tropical east coast and ranges, more isolated about the southern coast. Moderate to fresh SE winds along most of the east coast. Elsewhere light to moderate SE to NE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high near Coffs Harbour will drift northeast and weaken during the weekend while a new high develops south of the great Australian Bight. SE winds along the tropical east coast will gradually ease a little more, and rather light SE to NE winds are expected along the southern coast through the weekend. Coastal showers will contract to the tropical east coast on Saturday, and should continue there for several days. Also isolated showers are expected to develop on Saturday in a band across the southeast tropics and near a deepening surface trough lying through the central and southern interior of the state. An upper level trough is expected to amplify towards southwest Queensland on Sunday. This system will increase cloud over the interior of the state causing increasing showers combined in the south with rain areas and possible thunderstorms. The southern coast can expect fine weather for the weekend. Computer forecast models differ in weather outlooks for early next week. At this stage, the most likely scenario is that the upper trough will move slowly east and weaken. Rain areas and local thunderstorms should contract into southeast districts during Monday and Tuesday ahead of the upper level system. Some moderate to locally heavy falls are possible. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
