Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 5/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A gale and strong wind warning for all east coast waters. A strong wind warning for the northeast Gulf of Carpentaria. STATE FORECAST for Monday night and Tuesday Scattered showers about the north tropical coast with some moderate falls likely. Isolated showers along the rest of the east coast, and this evening about the north tropical inland. Moderate to fresh S to SE winds, strong along the exposed east coast and islands. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The large high centred over eastern Victoria will shift very slowly northeast near the new South Wales coast during the next few days while gradually weakening. Gales along the southern Queensland coast will ease tonight, but strong SE winds are likely to continue in all east coast waters and the northeast Gulf of Carpentaria until about Wednesday. Isolated showers are expected along the most of the east coast at first, contracting north from about Fraser island on Thursday and further north on Friday. Showers will be more widespread about the north tropical coast and ranges, and some moderate falls are likely in this area during the next 24 hours partly aided by the passage of an upper trough. The remainder of the state can expect fine weather for the foreseeable future. Daytime temperatures will be near normal in most areas. Overnight temperatures will be above normal in coastal parts and the tropics due to windy conditions. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
