Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 4/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A gale and strong wind warning has been issued for all east coast waters. A strong wind warning has been issued for the eastern Gulf of Carpentaria. STATE FORECAST for Monday Isolated showers along most of the east coast, more scattered along the north tropical coast. Isolated showers this afternoon and evening over the north tropical interior. Fresh southeast winds, strong along the east coast and gale force at times along the exposed south coast and islands overnight. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The very large high near Tasmania will remain near stationary for the next few days but slowly weaken. The already firm ridge along the east Queensland coast will strengthen further today and remain that way into the middle of the week. Gale force winds are expected along the exposed south coast and islands before easing slightly this afternoon whilst strong winds are expected along the rest of the east coast for the next few days. Isolated showers are expected along most of the east coast well into next week but will be more scattered along the north tropical coast and ranges, partly aided by the passage of an upper trough today and Tuesday. It will remain fine over the remainder of the state for the foreseeable future. Daytime temperatures will be near normal in most parts but below average over the southeast today.
