Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 3/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A gale and strong wind warning has been issued for east coast waters between St Lawrence and Coolangatta. A strong wind warning is current for east coast waters between Torres Strait and Cairns. STATE FORECAST for Sunday Isolated showers along most of the east coast and over northern Cape York Peninsula. Fresh southeast winds becoming strong to gale force along the southern coast during the day. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The large high over the Great Australian Bight will intensify further as a cold front moves through the Tasman Sea. The already firm ridge along the east Queensland coast will strengthen and remain that way into the middle of next week. Gale force winds are expected along the south coast and islands today with strong winds along most of the remainder of the east coast. Isolated showers are expected along most of the east coast well into next week but will become more widespread along the north tropical coast and ranges on Monday as an upper trough moves across the northern tropics. Some showers are expected over the central tropical interior on Monday with this upper trough. It will remain fine over the remainder of the state for the foreseeable future. Daytime temperatures will be near normal in most parts but below average over the southeast on Sunday and Monday.
