Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 3/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
A gale and strong wind warning has been issued for east coast waters between St
Lawrence and Coolangatta for SUNDAY.
A strong wind warning is current for east coast waters between Torres Strait and
Cairns.  
STATE FORECAST
for Saturday night and Sunday
Isolated showers along most of the east coast and over northern Cape York
Peninsula. Fresh southeast winds becoming strong to gale force along the
southern coast on Sunday. 
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The large high over the Great Australian Bight will increase in intensity
tonight as a cold front moves into the Tasman Sea. The already firm ridge along
the east Queensland coast will strengthen on Sunday and Monday and remain that
way into the middle of next week. Gale force winds are expected along the south
coast and islands on Sunday with strong winds otherwise along the east coast.
Isolated showers are expected along most of the east coast during the weekend
and next week but will become more widespread along the north tropical coast and
ranges on Monday as an upper trough moves across the northern tropics. Some
showers and possible thunderstorms are expected over the central tropical
interior on Monday with this upper trough. The central and southern interiors
will remain fine. Daytime temperatures will be near normal most parts but below
average over the southeast on Sunday and Monday. Overnight temperatures will be
above normal in coastal parts and the tropics due to windy conditions.
