Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 2/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

STATE FORECAST
for Saturday
A few showers along the east coast and over Cape York Peninsula with fresh SE
winds. Fine and dry over the remainder with moderate SE to NE winds.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The large high over the Bight will intensify as it moves slowly east and
stagnates near Victoria until mid-week. The high will build a firm ridge along
the Queensland coast, which will strengthen further on Sunday with fresh to
strong SE winds becoming established along the entire east coast with showers
and rough seas. These conditions are expected to persist into the first half of
next week but winds will ease along the south coast from Tuesday as the high
moves begins  weakening.  Isolated showers are also expected to persist over the
far northern tropics with fine conditions over the remainder of the state and   
near average temperatures, in most parts, however temperatures will become 
slightly cooler in southeast parts on Monday.
