Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 1/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
A gale warning has been issued for Victorian coastal waters east of Wilsons
Promontory. Strong wind warnings are current for remaining Victorian coastal
waters and for Port Phillip, Western Port and the Gippsland Lakes.
Weather Pattern
Following the passage of a cold front through Bass Strait on Saturday, a strong
high pressure system, currently south of South Australia, will move over
Victoria on Sunday and then will persist there for most of next week. 
Victoria
Tonight and Saturday: Scattered showers and drizzle patches in southern and
mountain districts, gradually becoming isolated during the afternoon and evening
and contracting to the southeast. Fine on the northern plains. A cool to cold
and mostly cloudy day with moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds,
strong at times near the coast and over Gippsland.
Sunday:    Isolated morning showers in the southeast, otherwise fine.  Cool to
cold day after early frosts.
Monday:    Fine apart from isolated morning fog. Early frosts then a cool to
mild day.
Tuesday:   Fine apart from isolated morning fog. Early frosts then a cool to
mild day.
Forecast for Melbourne
Tonight and Saturday
A light shower or two this evening. Mostly cloudy tomorrow with a few showers,
gradually clearing during the afternoon as sunny breaks develop. Southwesterly
winds freshening during the day.

Trend for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Mainly fine. Cool to mild.
Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Tonight and Saturday: West to southwesterly winds of 10 to 15 knots increasing
to 15 to 20 knots overnight. Wind tending southwest to southerly at 20 to 25
knots during the late morning or early afternoon, then gradually easing to 10 to
15 knots later. Waves of about 1 metre, rising 1 to 1.5 metres during the
morning, then abating to a metre or less later.
Sunday:    South to southwesterly winds of 10 to 15  knots, easing to 5 to 10
knots during the day.
Monday:    Variable winds at 5 to 10 knots.
Tuesday:   Variable winds at 5 to 10 knots.
Headline Melbourne: Few showers clearing.
Headline Victoria:  Scattered showers and drizzle in southern and mountain
