Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 1/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY No warnings. STATE FORECAST for Friday Areas of cloud and patchy rain, with local thunder in the SE quarter of the state, gradually clearing seawards later in the day. Isolated showers along the the east coast south of Townsville and along Cape York Peninsula. Fine and dry over the remainder. Freshening SE winds along the east coast, otherwise moderate SE to NE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK A large high will develop over the Bight, then move very slowly east towards Bass Strait over the next few days. The high will build a firm ridge along the Queensland coast, which will strengthen even further late in the weekend as the high intensifies. Coastal areas can expect SE trade winds to gradually freshen with strong winds and moderate to rough seas developing through the latter half of the long weekend. Fresh to strong winds are expected to persist until at least Tuesday over waters north of Cape Moreton.
